The Little Farm: A Timeless Revival of Century-Old Charm
There’s something magical about bringing a piece of history back to life, especially when it dates back to the turn of the century. At The Little Farm, our goal was to honor the home’s rich past while seamlessly blending it with the needs and comforts of modern living. This renovation is a story of preserving old-world charm, thoughtfully balanced with contemporary upgrades, creating a home that feels both timeless and refreshingly current.
For The Little Farm, those nods back to the late 1800’s included bead board on the walls, antique inspired light fixtures, exposed ceiling boards, small hexagon tile, subway tile laid out in a more modern vertical pattern and a modernized version of checkerboard tile floors.
A Hallway That Tells a Story
Stepping inside the hall, you’re met by a stunning 12-foot expanse of built-in cabinetry, seamlessly integrated into the hallway. This isn’t just a nod to today’s need for ample storage—it’s a carefully crafted design that draws inspiration from the home’s original architecture. With beadboard walls, antique-inspired light fixtures, and exposed ceiling boards, every detail pays homage to the late 1800s, reimagined in a way that feels right at home in the present.

A Private Retreat in the Primary Bedroom
The primary bedroom is a true sanctuary, designed to be both restful and luxurious. French doors now open directly onto the covered back porch, inviting soft breezes and natural light to fill the room. We relocated and expanded the closet, creating a custom walk-in with built-ins that more than doubles the storage space. The ceiling, dressed in beautifully stained tongue and groove pine, adds a rustic touch that whispers of simpler times, making this room a private retreat that inspires rest and relaxation.

Bringing Warmth to a Forgotten Space
The Little Farm had last seen a renovation some 50 years ago, and it showed. Industrial office vibes, drop ceilings, and dated paneling felt cold and disconnected from the home’s true essence. We stripped away those layers to reveal the soul of the house, transforming it into a warm, open, and inviting space that feels expansive yet intimately charming.

The Heart of the Home: A Kitchen Full of Memories
The kitchen is more than a place to cook—it’s where stories are shared, and memories are made. With this in mind, we designed a kitchen that blends function with thoughtful, beautiful design. There’s plenty of space around the island for cooking side by side or simply gathering together. The custom banquette offers a cozy spot to relax, enjoy a meal, or keep the chef company.
We ensured every detail had a purpose: pull-out shelves in the tall pantry and lower cabinets, corner pull-out lazy Susans, a large pull-out trash bin, and two smaller pull-out compost bins. For the family baker, there’s an appliance lift for the stand mixer, neatly tucked away but always within reach.
A Modern Twist on Classic Design
This kitchen is as hardworking as it is beautiful, with quartz and white oak butcher block countertops, brass accents, and a panel-ready dishwasher that blends seamlessly into the cabinetry. The slide-in range features a convection oven, and the undermount workstation sink in the island adds both style and functionality. The built-in refrigerator maintains the clean lines and uncluttered look that defines the space.
But the true showstopper is the tile floor—a modern take on a classic checkerboard, using a mix of matte and polished tiles for a subtle, elegant play of textures. It’s a perfect example of how late 1800s design can be reinvented to suit today’s lifestyles, combining the old and new in a way that feels effortlessly chic.
A Home That Honors the Past and Embraces the Future
The Little Farm is more than just a renovation; it’s a carefully crafted blend of history and modernity, where every detail is a thoughtful nod to the past while looking confidently toward the future. It’s a home that invites you to live, gather, and create memories in a space that feels both familiar and wonderfully fresh. Come see how we’ve reimagined the charm of a bygone era to fit today’s world—you might just find it’s the perfect place to call home.
